Darwin hypothesized that facial expressions to emotion signaledbiological responses to outside stimuli. Researchers took thegranddad of modern biology to task in
a recent study
that illustrates some interesting truths about humans and stress.
Subjects were made to complete several stressful test questions whileresearchers increased their stress levels by prodding and telling themthat failure was a reflection of low intelligence. Researchersfound that those subjects whose facial expressions indicated fear inthe face of stress had a higher incidence of increased biologicalresponses to stress (pulse, stress hormone level, blood pressure, etc.)than did those subjects who responded with anger or indignation.
The lesson here, if faced with a stessful situation, your best bet is to flip it off or freak out .
