In a move that surprises no one, Anheuser Busch has
cancelled their Bud Pong
promotion. Apparently the geniuses behind one of the most powerful and successful alcohol companies
didn't realize
thata marketing campaign that paired drinking and games might attract thosewho weren't yet of age. This comes only days after a cover storyin the New York Times detailing the success of Bud Pong and similarcampaigns.
From the company statement: "it has come to ourattention that despite our explicit guidelines, there may have beeninstances where this promotion was not carried out in the manner it wasintended." Yeah, who would have thought? Just maybe, couldthis oversight have had anything to do with the manner in whichAnheuser markets Budweiser? Probably not, but even still thebrain trust over at Anheuser Busch would be well advised to examinewhat's working and what might not be appropriate.
